From the UPDATE editor

A year ago, I joined Hunter’s Fund, feeling nervous about stepping into a new role after a break from media. Now, as Media Manager and editor of our newsletter, UPDATE, I can honestly say this experience has changed me for the better. Transitioning from my newspaper background into nonprofit media has been both challenging and energizing, but it feels like a perfect fit.

With over a decade of print media experience, particularly in newspapers, it felt like second nature to jump in and take charge of our publications.

Nonprofit media, though, is a whole new world compared to traditional news media, and in the best possible ways. I love sharing good news, showcasing the progress made, and highlighting the lives changed through the support from people like you.

That’s the magic of Hunter’s Fund – we believe so profoundly in our mission of saving and changing lives, that it changes us and saves us, too.

One of the best parts of my job is being able to pour all my energy and skill into UPDATE. Instead of being part of a larger news assembly line, I’m often the entire process—from reporting and editing to designing and writing. Yet, UPDATE wouldn’t be possible without my team. Jerry, Kathy, and Judith are always there for copy editing, while Debra adds the visual polish with her graphics and keen attention to detail. Hunter Piland’s organizational skills keep Safe Driving Week information right at my fingertips, and Heather’s constant stream of ideas and fundraising updates makes every step of my job easier.

Creating each issue is a rewarding process. From brainstorming the content and sketching out the editor’s ladder (Jerry’s favorite part!) to the final proofing and approval, every stage is a team effort. It’s challenging, no doubt, but I’ve never felt drained because I know what I’m doing makes a difference.

If you’ve seen a post on social media or opened an email from us, you’ve likely encountered something I helped create. Being a bridge between Hunter’s Team and you is an honor.

And none of it would be possible without you—our readers, donors, and volunteers. Your support, which funded eight young entrepreneurs this year alone, continues to make such a difference.

FALL 2024 UPDATE

I hope you enjoy this issue of UPDATE as much as I enjoyed putting it together!
