Grant Winner Updates!

Hunter’s Fund exists to empower students with world-changing ideas. Over the years, we've had the pleasure of supporting incredible talent across diverse fields—from game development and music to wildlife conservation and healthcare technology. I’m so excited to share updates from four of our grant recipients! They’re thriving thanks to people like you.

Oshakie Gittens, who received a Hunter’s Fund grant in Spring 2023, has made great strides with his gaming business, Vincintech.

Thanks to the grant, Oshakie got a top-notch gaming laptop and tools, letting him create and innovate more easily. With these resources, he’s grown his audience and made his games more engaging. He’s also upgraded his mobile games, speeding up development that would have taken much longer.

Oshakie has joined game creation events like GamJams, which helped him connect with other developers around the world. He’s now diving into PC game development on Steam, the largest gaming marketplace in the world, with a new game set to release later this year.

The grant, made possible by your support, has been a huge help in reaching these milestones and moving forward in his field.

“I am eager to continue pushing the boundaries of what I can achieve in the game development space,” says Oshakie.

Da Vinci Schools student and aspiring wildlife conservationist Finnley Webber is turning her passion for nature into a tech-savvy educational tool. With a 2024 grant from Hunter’s Fund, she’s developing the WILDLIFE ID app, an innovative platform that encourages users to discover and learn about real-world animals, much like a nature-inspired “PokemonGo.”

Finnley recently shared that the app's development is progressing smoothly, with testing set to begin ahead of schedule this month. Excitingly, the WILDLIFE ID app will be co-branded with Hunter’s Fund, featuring its logo on the splash screen and linking directly to the Hunter’s Fund website. Similar attributions will also be added to the WILDLIFE ID website, strengthening the connection between this groundbreaking project and the support that made it possible.

Independent artist Louis Cardozo has always been about pushing boundaries, and his 2023 Hunter’s Fund grant allowed him to take his creativity to new heights—literally! With donor support, Louis brought his vision to life by producing a stunning music video featuring a flying piano, accompanying his song “Fly,” which explores his journey of healing from depression. (If you haven’t heard Louis’s story, you can find the Hunter’s Blog post about him here.)

Recently, Louis shared exciting news: he’s completed his EP, with just one song left to be mixed and mastered. As he wraps up this transformative project, Louis expressed deep gratitude for the support that made it all possible.

“it's been an amazing, career changing opportunity to have the support to do the videos and recordings,” Louis said.

Looking ahead, he’s considering hosting a fundraising charity gig in the UK to give back to Hunter’s Fund.

Kenichia Charles, a grant winner from 2019 who was awarded a second grant in 2020, has made impressive progress in her career.

From September 2023 to March 2024, Kenichia worked as a Clinical Engineer at the University of Vermont, gaining valuable experience. She became a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician in May 2023, thanks to tests with the AAMI in the US.

She recently moved back to Anguilla, where she works as a Biomedical Engineer for the Department of Health Services. She also takes on the role of Acting Director of Facilities when her supervisor is away.

Kenichia plans to further her education with a Master’s in Management and is working on a book about the challenges Biomedical Engineers face in the region.

“I am forever grateful that Hunter’s Fund provided me with a launching pad to excel in the field of Healthcare Technology Management where I am able to make a positive impact on so many lives,” says Kenichia.

These stories are just a glimpse into the change Hunter’s Fund is driving around the world. Our grant winners are turning their dreams into reality. Your continued support is crucial in helping more innovators like Oshakie, Louis, Kenichia, and Finnley achieve their goals. As they push boundaries and break new ground, we’re proud to stand behind them—and we can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish next.
